Industrial Generators For Sale

BUY New & Used Commercial Backup Generators 25kW-99kW GENERATORS FOR SALE

From 25 kW to 99 kW the market runs from towable jobsite diesels at the bottom to stationary standby sets wired to a transfer switch at the top, and the hinge sits around 50 kW, where three-phase becomes the norm and the voltage you run at starts to change what a set is rated for. Use this page to find your sub-range, compare single sizes from 35 kW through 80 kW, and check amps, fuel burn, and published spec-sheet figures before you narrow it down.

Industries That Use 25 kW to 99 kW Generators

Two buyers share this band: contractors and rental houses moving trailers between jobs, and building owners putting a set on a pad to carry a defined group of circuits.

  • Construction: Trailer units power welders, compressors, pumps, and site trailers. Several trades drawing at once push crews into the 50 to 70 kW class.
  • Rental fleets: The 62 kW towable is a fleet staple, and rental cycling is why so many used units at that size carry 6,000 hours or more.
  • Agriculture: Irrigation, grain handling, and barn ventilation, sometimes as prime power far from a service drop.
  • Water districts: Lift stations and booster pumps are nearly all motor load, so they land in the upper half of the band.
  • Cities and municipalities: Pump houses and small operations buildings, where procurement rules often call for new equipment.
  • Schools: Smaller buildings and community centers that double as shelters.
  • Telecom: Shelters and cell sites, where printed runtime matters most.
  • Small manufacturing: Machine shops and single production lines running whole shifts.

Sizing notes by sector are on our industries served pages.

25 kW to 99 kW Generators at a Glance

  • Apparent power: 31 to 124 kVA at 0.8 power factor.
  • Current, three-phase: 37.8 A at 25 kW to 120 A at 80 kW on 480V, and 87 A to 278 A on 208V, per our amperage chart.
  • Diesel burn at full load: 2.9 gal/hr at 30 kW to 6.1 gal/hr at 75 kW on our chart.
  • Towable weight above 50 kW: 3,770 lb operating for a Magnum MMG55FHDCAN6 to 7,239 lb with fuel for a JCB G70RS.
  • Most common format: trailer-mounted diesel. 63 of the 64 units we’ve listed here ran on diesel, and 62 kW was the most common output.
  • Where it splits: below 50 kW nearly everything is a towable; above it, stationary standby sets with a transfer switch become a real share of the market.

Where Each Sub-Range Fits From 20 kW to 99 kW

Most buyers settle into one band once the load list is done:

BandkVAWhat drives it
20kW – 24kW25 to 30 kVAJust below this range. Outbuildings and light standby with little or no motor load.
25kW – 49kW31 to 61 kVATowable jobsite diesels and small commercial standby, where model names are usually kVA. Full detail on that page.
50kW – 74kW63 to 93 kVASeveral crews or one production line. Ex-rental 62 kW towables make up most of our used listings.
75kW – 99kW94 to 124 kVASmall-facility standby and mid-size towables, where buyers start weighing the jump to 100 kW.

Single Sizes From 35 kW to 80 kW, Side by Side

Each size links to its own page. Amps are three-phase from our amperage chart, except 35 and 45 kW, which come from Generac’s SD035 and SG045 sheets.

70 kW87.5Between 91 and 113 AA second production line, or replacing a set that fell behind
75 kW93.8113 AMulti-tenant buildings and mid-size manufacturing
80 kW100120 AOne major system, such as a large HVAC unit, plus building loads

Neighboring sizes are close, so the largest motor start usually decides it, not the running total.

Five Spec Sheets From the 50 kW to 80 kW Classes

Published figures for towable and stationary models across the upper part of the band:

ModelFuel, mountRated kWFuel at full loadTank and printed runtime
Magnum MMG55FHDCAN6Diesel, towable50 kW standby at 600V; 43 standby / 41 prime at 480V3.6 gph at prime106 gal (95 usable), 28.5 hr max

Kohler KG80Natural gas, stationary80 kW standby1,202 cfhUtility line, 7 to 11 in. water column

The towables are sold on prime ratings and carry their runtime with them. The stationary sets are sold on standby and let you pick the tank: the SD080 runs from a 13-hour to a 93-hour supply on the same generator. And the MMG55FHDCAN6’s 50 kW figure only holds at 600V, a pattern covered below.

Diesel Burn From 30 kW to 75 kW, and How Long a Tank Lasts

Our diesel fuel consumption chart has four rows inside this band. The last column is the full-load figure times 24:

Size1/4 load1/2 load3/4 loadFull load24 hr at full load
30 kW1.3 gal/hr1.8 gal/hr2.4 gal/hr2.9 gal/hrAbout 70 gal
40 kW1.6 gal/hr2.3 gal/hr3.2 gal/hr4.0 gal/hr96 gal
60 kW1.8 gal/hr2.9 gal/hr3.8 gal/hr4.8 gal/hrAbout 115 gal
75 kW2.4 gal/hr3.4 gal/hr4.6 gal/hr6.1 gal/hrAbout 146 gal

Maker sheets track the chart closely at this size. Caterpillar’s DE65 GC burns 4.8 gal/hr at full load at its 60 ekW standby rating, matching the 60 kW row, and Cummins lists 5.0 gph for the C60D6R at full standby. Caterpillar’s D80 GC shows the same 6.1 gal/hr as the 75 kW row, and Generac lists 6.3 gal/hr for the SD080.

When comparing runtime, check the load behind it. Doosan prints 25 hours at 100% load for the G70WDO’s 110-gallon tank, Generac prints 32 hours at 75% of prime for the MDG100DF4, and Atlas Copco prints 35.3 hours at 75% load for the QAS 95 using 90% of its 166 gallons. Compare them at the same load step.

Three-Phase Amps From 25 kW to 80 kW

Every row inside the band on our generator amperage chart, three-phase at 0.8 power factor:

OutputkVA208V240V480V
25 kW31.387 A75.5 A37.8 A
30 kW37.5104 A90.3 A45.2 A
40 kW50139 A120 A60 A
50 kW62.5173 A152 A76 A
60 kW75208 A181 A91 A
75 kW93.8261 A226 A113 A
80 kW100278 A240 A120 A

The 240V column is three-phase. At the top of the band, an 80 kW set on 208V puts 278 A through its breaker against 120 A on 480V, so a 208V building ends up with heavier cable and a larger transfer switch for the same generator. Our power calculators will check your total.

What Changes Once You Cross 50 kW?

Three things: three-phase becomes the norm, ratings start depending on voltage, and towables get heavier and add emissions hardware.

  • Phase: Single-phase is common through the 25 to 49 kW band. From 50 kW up, three-phase is standard, though some 65 kW models can still be configured single-phase, so confirm phase on the exact unit.
  • Voltage-dependent ratings: The MMG55FHDCAN6 is 50 kW standby at 600V, 43 kW at 480V, and 37 kW at 208V.
  • DEF: Tier 4 Final towables here use SCR aftertreatment. The Doosan G70 carries a 5.1-gallon DEF tank and the MDG100DF4 9.1 gallons usable.
  • Weight: Towables run 3,770 to 7,239 lb operating, from the MMG55FHDCAN6 to the JCB G70RS. Those on our 25kW – 49kW page top out around 4,030 lb wet.

Jobsite Trailer or Small-Facility Standby Set?

Buy a trailer if the unit moves more than a few times a year; buy a pad-mounted standby set if it serves one building.

A trailer package brings its own fuel, running gear, and enclosure; Generac’s MDG100DF4 has hydraulic surge brakes and a 3-inch pintle ring standard, with tandem axles optional. Site conditions count too: Atlas Copco’s QAS 95 holds full output to 40°C at sea level but drops to 90% from 30°C to 40°C at 2,000 m, so a hot or high site may need the next size up.

A standby set trades mobility for options. Cummins builds the C70 N6 open or in weather-protective, Sound Level 1, Sound Level 2, or winter enclosures, with average wet weight rising from 2,449 lb open to 2,754 lb in the Level 2 housing. Towables are listed under trailer-mounted generators, and pad-mounted units under industrial standby generators.

Is Natural Gas Practical Between 50 kW and 99 kW?

Yes, for stationary standby where gas service is already on site, as long as the meter and piping can deliver the flow.

Gas demand climbs steeply across the band. Cummins lists 806.3 cfh at full load for the C50N6, Kohler 975 cfh for the KG60, Generac 928 scfh for the SG070, and Kohler 1,202 cfh for the KG80. Supply pressure varies by model too, from 5 to 11 inches of water column on the KG60 to 11 to 14 inches standard on Generac’s SG080. Have the utility confirm both before the pad is poured. Gas units are under industrial natural gas generators and diesel under industrial diesel generators.

Prime Ratings, Ex-Rental Hours, and the New-or-Used Call

If the set will run for whole shifts or as primary power, size it on its prime rating, not standby.

Cummins rates the C60D6R at 60 kW standby and 55 kW prime; prime covers varying load for unlimited hours. Generac lists 72 kW prime figures for the SD080 and SG080 but notes they can’t be sold as EPA-certified prime in the US, which matters for a permitted install.

Read used hours by format: an ex-rental 62 kW towable at 10,000 hours and a stationary 80 kW set at 749 hours are different purchases. New is the answer when a spec calls for a factory warranty, a current emissions tier, or new equipment outright, as municipal and school work often does. Browse used industrial generators and new industrial generators side by side.

Should You Buy or Rent Between 25 kW and 99 kW?

Rent for one project with an end date; buy for standby or year-round job use.

Purchase prices here are modest, so steady rental catches up with the cost of an inspected used unit within about a year. Our rental side, Stag Power Rentals, handles short-term work, and our generator financing options help when timing is the obstacle.

Below 25 kW or Above 99 kW?

Under 25 kW and no meaningful motor load? Drop down. Past 99 kW, or with equipment coming soon, step up.

25kW – 99kW Questions: Phase, Gas Supply, and Trailer Weight

How many amps does a generator in this range produce at 480V?

From 37.8 A at 25 kW to 120 A at 80 kW, three-phase at 0.8 power factor, per our amperage chart. On 208V the same sizes run 87 A to 278 A.

Is single-phase available above 50 kW?

Sometimes, but three-phase is the standard from 50 kW up. Some 65 kW models can be configured single-phase, so confirm the alternator configuration on the exact unit before you order.

How much diesel does a 75 kW generator burn in a day?

About 146 gallons in 24 hours at full load, based on the 6.1 gal/hr on our chart. At half load, 3.4 gal/hr, it’s about 82 gallons.

How heavy is a towable generator above 50 kW?

From 3,770 lb operating for the Magnum MMG55FHDCAN6 to 7,239 lb with fuel for the JCB G70RS.

What gas supply does an 80 kW natural gas set need?

About 1,200 cubic feet per hour at full load. Kohler lists 1,202 cfh for the KG80 at 7 to 11 inches of water column, and Generac lists 1,247 scfh for the SG080 at 11 to 14 inches standard.

Why are so many used 62 kW towables on the market?

Rental fleets cycle them out, so the Multiquip DCA70 units we list carry 6,000 to nearly 16,000 hours. Every one is inspected and load bank tested and carries our 30-day warranty.
